Thank you for contributing to the success of the QSCDK. Thanks to your participation, data will be collected throughout Québec and will be used to guide various initiatives supporting the development of preschool children.
Participation Procedure: The participation procedure presents what your participation in the survey entails and provides additional information. We strongly recommend that you keep it handy.
Early Development Instrument (EDI) Guide: This guide explains the content of the student questionnaires. We highly recommend that you read it before completing the questionnaires, or that you refer to it while doing so.
Student Questionnaire (EDI) - as a reference
Electronic Questionnaire User Manual: The user manual presents the technical information that will allow you to navigate through the electronic questionnaires, i.e. the student questionnaires and the complementary questionnaire on the teacher’s experience.
Letter for the students' parents, including the refusal form
Data collection is complete. We want to thank everyone in the education sector for their contribution to the production of quality statistics that Québec needs to promote the development of children.
1. How can I remove a child’s name from my list?
If the child is not in your class, has left the school or never went to your school, answer questions 1 to 15 under the “Demographics” section. You will then be asked to save and submit the questionnaire without having to fill it all out.
2. We are two kindergarten teachers in this class. Which one of us should complete the questionnaires?
Ideally, only one teacher should complete the questionnaires so that the responses given for children in the same class are consistent. However, if the class is a double class, meaning that there are two classes in the same room, the teacher assigned to the child must complete the questionnaire.
3. What should I do if I completed and submitted a questionnaire for a child, but later received the refusal form from their parent?
If you haven’t yet submitted the child’s questionnaire electronically, please check the parent refusal box at the beginning of the “Demographics” section and return the refusal form in the envelope provided.
If you have already submitted the child’s questionnaire electronically, return the refusal form in the envelope provided. The data will be destroyed upon receipt of the form by the Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ).
If you have already submitted the child’s questionnaire electronically and the envelope has already been returned to the ISQ, please e-mail us at eqdem@stat.gouv.qc.ca to let us know. The data will be destroyed by the ISQ upon receipt of your e-mail.
4. I teach in an immersion class. Do I complete the English or French version of the questionnaire?
You must complete the questionnaire in the school’s language. For example, if you teach in a French immersion class at an English school, base your answers on the child’s ability in the language of the school, English.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to observe the child’s abilities or assess some of the child’s skills in the language of the school, answer to the best of your knowledge.
5. Why are the questionnaires completed in the second half of the school year?
During the first half of the year, you have time to get to know the children in your class. It is therefore easier for you to answer questions about your students in the second half of the year. Furthermore, children who were struggling in the beginning of the year because they were not familiar with the school environment or language of instruction have a chance to catch up to their peers during the first months of school.
6. Why must certain teachers fill out an additional questionnaire?
Certain teachers selected at random will be asked to complete a questionnaire that collects additional information in order to enrich provincial analyses related to the QSCDK 2022 results (e.g., class, school and teacher characteristics).
If you are among the selected teachers, this questionnaire can be found at the end of the list of questionnaires on your students. If you are not, you will only see the questionnaires on the students in your class.
