Survey on the Childcare Use, Needs and Preferences of Families

    Type of survey

    Cross-sectional survey; regional estimates (health regions).

    Targeted population

    Families with children under the age of 5 on September 30 of the survey year and residing in Québec. Families residing in health regions 17 (Nunavik) and 18 (Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James), in unorganized territories (regions without municipal organization, administered directly by the province or electoral district, characterized by a low population density and a vast territory) and on Indian reserves are excluded.

    Sample

    1998: 5,408 families;

    2000-2001: 6,783 families;

    2004: 14,389 families;

    2009: 11,161 families.

    Themes

    General information on childcare arrangements, regular and irregular use of reduced-contribution childcare services; interest in using these services; main type of childcare; frequency; number of hours in childcare; regular and irregular use due to work, studies or another reason; preferences and needs; sociodemographic characteristics of families and parents.
