Are telephone interviews recorded?

For quality and training purposes, telephone interviews with Institut de la statistique du Québec agents are recorded. If you do not want the interview to be recorded, simply notify the agent at the beginning of the call.

Why was my business chosen?

Your business was selected because it operates an orchard with at least 50 apple trees in Québec. The survey sample is based on the Producteurs de pommes du Québec registration file and on historical information.

Do I have to participate in this survey?

Yes. Your participation is essential because it will allow us to obtain high-quality data. We want to get as accurate a picture of the situation as possible, because the average sale price of apples depends on the quantity of apples grown in Québec. The reports produced based on your answers will also provide the apple industry with key information for optimizing apple marketing.

As set out in section 11 of the Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec, the Chief Statistician has the right to determine which requests for information are to be considered mandatory if such information is deemed necessary to produce reliable statistics. It was determined by the Chief Statistician that this survey should be mandatory.

As a result, you are legally obligated to take part in the survey. Under this Act, anyone asked to provide the Institut de la statistique du Québec with information deemed mandatory must do so within the prescribed timeframe and in the prescribed format.

What is the Institut de la statistique du Québec’s privacy policy?

The Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec guarantees that the information you provide will be kept confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes. All Institut employees have been sworn in before a commissioner and are bound to maintain secrecy and confidentiality.

Will you share my answers with other individuals or organizations?

The survey results will be sent to Statistics Canada, which will integrate them into its study on Canadian apple production. However, no individual data will be provided to that agency. All data will be aggregated to protect the anonymity of participants. This information cannot be used to identify you or to make administrative verifications.
