Residential construction expenditures

    In 2023, residential construction expenditures were estimated at $31.9 billion, down 13.2% from 2022. Nearly half (49.4%) of these expenditures were incurred in the regions of Montréal (23.3%) and Montérégie (17.5%) and, to a lesser extent, in the Laurentides region (8.6%).

    At the provincial level, residential construction expenditures were mainly for renovations (59.6%). Read more (in French only)

    The analysis of residential construction expenditures by administrative region is based on Statistics Canada’s statistical program Investment in Building Construction. These expenditures must be interpreted with caution, since the detailed data on building permits used for the regional breakdown are partial for certain regions and asset categories.
