Residential construction expenditures

In 2024, residential construction expenditures were estimated at $36.6 billion, up 14.8% from 2023. Nearly half (47.9%) of these expenditures were incurred in the regions of Montréal (20.5%) and Montérégie (16.7%) and, to a lesser extent, in the Laurentides region (10.8%).

At the provincial level, residential construction expenditures were mainly for renovations (61.0%). Read more (in French only)

The analysis of residential construction expenditures by administrative region is based on Statistics Canada’s statistical program Investment in Building Construction. These expenditures must be interpreted with caution, since the detailed data on building permits used for the regional breakdown are partial for certain regions and asset categories.
