In 2018–2019, the production value of Québec's audiovisual industry reached the $2 billion mark for the first time. This is a 7% increase from the previous year.
This publication provides a variety of statistics on the Québec audiovisual industry. It was prepared with the contribution of the Association québécoise de la production médiatique (AQPM) and in partnership with the Association des réalisateurs et réalisatrices du Québec (ARRQ), the Alliance québécoise des techniciens de l’image et du son (AQTIS – Alliance of Image and Sound Technicians), the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC), the Société des auteurs de radio, télévision et cinéma (SARTEC), the Table de concertation de l’industrie du cinéma et de la télévision de la Capitale-Nationale, and the Union des artistes (UDA). In order to facilitate comparisons between Québec and Canadian trends, the figures and tables presented in the publication are based on those found in the document Profile: Economic Report on the Screen-based Media Production Industry in Canada.
The first part of the publication provides an overall picture of screen-based production in Québec and the audiovisual industries. More in-depth information is then presented in the next eleven sections, seven of which focus on production (independent television production, film production, co-production, foreign location and service production, broadcaster in-house production, and convergent digital media production). In addition, the publication contains statistics on distribution, television broadcasting, theatrical exhibition, as well as broadcasting distribution undertakings. This edition also offers a glimpse of film and TV production in the Capitale-Nationale region.
