Comparison of historical trends in hourly earnings for women and men

    From 1998 to 2021, the women’s-to-men’s hourly earnings ratio increased from 83.4% to 90.8% in Québec. The number of paid jobs also rose by more than one million, with women benefiting the most from this increase (+535,000 vs. +475,000).

    This analysis focuses on paid employment, the share of women in paid employment, hourly earnings by sex, and the women’s-to-men’s hourly earnings ratio. Data are provided for the 10 broad occupational categories (1-digit NOC codes) and for 35 more detailed occupational groups (2-digit NOC codes) for the years 1998 and 2021.
