Québec Survey on Cultural Leisure and Entertainment

Given the transition to digital methods of creating, producing, disseminating and consuming cultural goods and the fact that Québec does not currently have any reliable data on consumers of culture, it was essential to conduct a survey on the cultural practices of the Québec population. The Québec Survey on Cultural Leisure and Entertainment aims to:

  • Resume the survey on cultural practices carried out every five years by the Québec Ministère de la Culture et des Communications from 1979 to 2014.
  • Analyze the cultural practices of Quebecers in the digital age and identify future trends.

Frequency and editions

One-time survey.

Type of survey

Cross-sectional survey.

Target population

The survey includes all persons aged 15 and over living in non-institutional dwellings in Québec who are eligible under the Québec Health Insurance Plan, which comprises persons living in private dwellings and those living in non-institutional collective dwellings (seniors’ residences, convents, etc.). It excludes persons living in institutional collective dwelling (hospitals, residential and long-term care centres [CHLSDs], correctional institutions, public seniors’ homes, rehabilitation centres, etc.) and persons living in the health regions of Nunavik (17) and Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James (18). Persons living on Indian reserves are not excluded and are therefore part of the target population.
