Survey on Attendance of Performing Arts Events in Québec

    The purpose of the Québec Survey on Performing Arts Attendance is to monitor the evolution of the show market in Québec. The Observatoire de la culture et des communications of the Institut de la statistique du Québec collects and disseminates data on attendance, number of performances, and ticket sales revenues for paid professional performing arts shows by language of performance, origin, discipline, and target audience.

    The survey is divided into quarters. You must therefore provide data for the following quarters:
    Quarter 1: January to March
    Quarter 2: April to June
    Quarter 3: July to September
    Quarter 4: October to December

    The Observatoire de la culture et des communications du Québec is part of the Institut de la statistique du Québec—Québec’s official statistical agency.     The Observatoire produces statistics on:

    How do I participate in the survey?

    To answer the survey, you simply have to:

    Why was my establishment chosen?

    This survey covers all establishments that present public, paying professional performing arts shows.

    The survey sample is based on several sources of information, including lists of members of professional associations in the performing arts sector, as well as lists of organizations eligible for the CALQ mission support or specific programming support program and the SODEC performance venue support program.

    Do I have to take part in this survey?

     

    Yes. Your participation is important for us to produce the most accurate picture possible of show attendance in Québec. Furthermore, it is necessary to have a good representativeness of professional performing arts shows to be able to break down the survey results by discipline, hall size, and administrative region.

    As set out in section 11 of the Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec, the Chief Statistician has the right to determine which requests for information are to be considered mandatory if he deems that such information is necessary to produce reliable statistics. It was determined by the Chief Statistician that this survey should be mandatory.

    Your participation is therefore required in accordance with the Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec. Under this Act, any person receiving a request for information to which a reply is mandatory must provide the information requested by the prescribed deadline and in the prescribed format.

    The Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec guarantees that the information you provide will be kept confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes.
