Study on the Languages Spoken in Québec (SLSQ)

Have you been invited to participate in this survey?

This study will help us obtain an overview of the knowledge and use of languages in Québec.

What is the Institut de la statistique du Québec?

The Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ) is a government agency whose mission is to produce, analyze and disseminate official, objective, high-quality statistics on various aspects of Québec society.

How do I participate in the study?

    To participate:

If necessary, you can exit the questionnaire and return to finish it at a more convenient time.

If you have not submitted your online questionnaire, the ISQ will call you to obtain your answers by telephone. If you are not available when we call, just let us know what time would be more convenient for you.

I tried to log in to the questionnaire but got an error message. What should I do?

You can contact the ISQ by phone at 1-800-561-0213 or by email at eslpq@stat.gouv.qc.ca.

Please mention the name of the study printed on your invitation letter, your name, your file number (found in the letter under your address), and your contact information.

We will respond to your request within 24 hours during our office hours, Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

    Why was I selected?

Your name was selected at random, just like that of several thousand other people in Québec, so that you can participate in the Study on the Languages Spoken in Québec.

This study is conducted in accordance with the Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec, and your contact information was obtained under this Act.

    Are telephone conversations recorded?

For quality and training purposes, telephone conversations with ISQ agents are recorded. If you do not want your conversation to be recorded, simply notify the agent at the beginning of the call.

What is the ISQ’s privacy policy?

The Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec guarantees that your answers will be kept confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes.

All ISQ employees have been sworn in before a commissioner and are bound to maintain secrecy and confidentiality.

Does the ISQ have an ethical framework?

Yes. The ethics committee appointed by the ISQ reviewed the study to ensure it is conducted in a way that respects participants and protects their dignity.

Can I complete the questionnaire for someone else?

The questionnaire is personal and can only be completed by the person who was selected for the study.

However, if the person selected does not speak French or English, a shorter version of the questionnaire can be completed by a third party over the phone.

How can I make sure you are from the ISQ?

You can call the ISQ toll-free at 1-800-561-0213.

How can I get more information about the study?

For more information, please contact the Direction de la gestion de la collecte by email at eslpq@stat.gouv.qc.ca or by phone (toll-free) at 1-800-561-0213.
