In 2019, Québec government tax support for industrial research and development (R&D) stood at $446 million, up 0.2% from 2018.
The number of businesses that received industrial R&D tax support was 3,810 (+63 from 2018), and more than three quarters (78.1%) were small businesses (fewer than 100 employees).

The professional, scientific and technical services sector received the most support, with 40.6% of the total support granted in 2019 ($180.9 million).
Among all recipient businesses, 34.8% were in this sector.

The R&D tax support granted by the Québec government to businesses totalled $441 million in 2018, up 2.2% from 2017.
The median amount of all tax credits paid by the Québec government was $34K in 2018.
The tax credit for R&D salaries remains the most used by businesses: 99.3% took advantage of it in Québec in 2018.
More than three-quarters of firms that received industrial R&D tax support were small businesses (less than 100 employees). They received nearly 46% of the total support provided in 2018.
Half of the industrial R&D tax support is paid to businesses with less than $25 million in assets, which represent 84.2% of recipient firms.
