Prejudice towards people living in poverty

The Québec Study on the Perception of Poverty 2024 provides a statistical portrait of prejudice towards poverty and people living in poverty, from the perspective of both the general population and those affected. The study was conducted by the Institut on behalf of the Ministère de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale (MESS) among 6,358 people aged 18 and over living in Québec.

It collected data on beliefs regarding poverty and attitudes towards people living in poverty among the general population. It also examined instances of discrimination experienced by people living in poverty, as well as the impacts that preconceptions towards their financial situation have had on their lives in the year preceding the survey.
