Gini coefficient based on adjusted income

    Addition of a measure of household and individual income inequality

    A new version of the Gini coefficient is added to the collection of tables on household and individual income inequality: a coefficient based on adjusted income, which takes into account household size.

    This publication presents:

    • statistics produced for the Gini coefficient based on adjusted income;
      the two concepts used to calculate the coefficient, i.e., unadjusted income and adjusted income;
    • recommendations for the use of each version of the coefficient;
    • results compared according to the two versions of the coefficient; and
    • the new indicator produced using adjusted income for all individuals, which is useful for international comparisons.
