This statistical review presents several hundred indicators concerning the prenatal period, birth and the first months of life of children, according to three indicators of household socioeconomic status: the highest level of studies completed by the mother, the household income level and an indicator combining the two. The indicators are grouped under various themes, such as the mother’s living habits during pregnancy, the birth conditions, health and development of the infant, the family environment and the child care environment. The review is based on the data collected in the Québec Longitudinal Study of Child Development in 1998 and 1999. The information in the review can serve as useful points of reference in evaluating the progress made since the late 1990s in terms of the living conditions, health and development of young Québec children.
