Enquête sociale et de santé auprès des enfants et des adolescents québécois, 1999 - Volet nutrition

Long awaited for, the nutritional component of the 1999 Health and Social Survey of Children and Adolescents aims at describing the diet, nutrient intake, and eating habits of young Quebecers aged 6 to 16 and at determining the target groups for future nutrition programs.

This report provides information from young Quebecers, their parents, and school authorities, and includes the results of 24-hour diet records and height and weight measurements. Close to 2,000 children agreed to meet with the nutritionists in the 182 primary and secondary schools randomly selected for the sample.

The results are featured in six chapters describing energy and macronutrient intake, vitamin and mineral intake, and eating habits in relation to the food groups in Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating. A portrait of the characteristics of the children and adolescents together with a chapter on the survey methods complete the publication.
