This publication is based on data from the Enqu&ecirc;te qu&eacute;b&eacute;coise sur la qualit&eacute; des services de lutte contre le cancer 2013. This survey provides representative and reliable data at the provincial and regional level, which help evaluate specific aspects of the reform of the Qu&eacute;bec cancer treatment system.
First, this publication provides a statistical picture of patients treated for cancer in 2010 who were assigned an oncology pivot nurse (OPN). Then, it examines whether having a pivot nurse is associated with a positive care experience. To that end, it studies the relationship between the assignment of OPNs and the perception of the quality of the care and services received by patients, both overall and for various aspects (accessibility; coordination and continuity; emotional support, information, communication and education; and respect for patient preferences).

This publication compares 35 indicators related to the organization of care and services from the 2008 and 2013 surveys to evaluate if the cancerology reform has led to changes measurable in time. Delays associated with the investigation, diagnosis and treatment are also discussed as well as access to an oncology pivot nurse (OPN) and use of the Oncology Passport.

This publication looks at the quality of health care received by patients by documenting:
<ul>
<li>1) the overall assessment they make of the services received;</li>
<li>2) six dimensions of quality: accessibility; coordination-continuity; emotional support; information; physical comfort and respect for patient preferences; and</li>
<li>3) waiting time at the hospital before receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy.</li>
</ul>

This study offers a cross-perspective on the organization of health services for cancer patients in Ontario and Qu&eacute;bec.
Data from two surveys on the experience of patient care are used: Ambulatory Oncology Patient Satisfaction Survey (AOPSS, 2006), conducted in Ontario, and the Enqu&ecirc;te qu&eacute;b&eacute;coise sur la qualit&eacute; des services de lutte contre le cancer (EQSLCC, 2008). First, the study features the organizational context of each province in the fight against cancer, as well as key concepts, tools and data used to assess patient experience.
Secondly, it offers an analysis of some common items to both provinces which provide an overview of the information and support received by patients.
Finally, the study highlights patient-centered care as a way to improve services for cancer patients.

The report on the Enquête québécoise sur la qualité des services de lutte contre le cancer ( http://www.stat.gouv.qc.ca/enquetes/sante/eqqslc.html ; page introuvable) gives a statistical picture of the experience of persons aged 18 and over who reside in Québec and received between April 1, 2005 and March 31, 2006 at least three forms of curative cancer therapy, i.e. surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy (including brachytherapy). The data, gathered in 2008 in 16 health regions of Québec from over 8,700 people with cancer, provides the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux and its network with the first information that can be used to evaluate and plan the services offered to people with cancer. A second publication, which gives a regional picture of the subjects covered in the survey.

This collection of statistics includes regional data from the Survey on the Quality of Cancer Services in Québec, 2008, produced in collaboration with the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux. The document, featuring tables covering the 16 health regions, provides information on the actual experiences of persons aged 18 and over who reside in Québec and received between April 1, 2005 and March 31, 2006 at least one of the three key cancer treatments: surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy (including brachytherapy). The publication also includes sociodemographic and health data on the targeted population, the pathway of those persons from screening through diagnosis, treatment, and medical follow-up, lifestyle changes, and their overall satisfaction regarding the care and services received.
