The land accounts for Southern Québec measure the land area south of the 51st parallel by land cover type (e.g. artificial surfaces, agricultural land, wetlands, and forests) in both the 1990s and the 2000s, and the land area where land cover changes occurred between these two decades.
Land cover changes are measured in the most accurate manner possible, based on international environmental accounting standards and using existing data for Québec.
Land accounts are an integral part of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA), or environmental accounts, which provides a complete and consistent statistical framework for measuring natural capital in relation to the economy.
The land accounts geographic data can be downloaded from the Données Québec website.
