Summary of responsibilities
Machinists perform a variety of work related to the production, modification and repair of parts, machines, mechanical equipment and tools. To that end, they set up and operate various machine tools or computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision machining operations such as turning, milling, boring, drilling and grinding.
Education requirement
Secondary School Diploma and six years relevant experience
OR
Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) with a specialization in machining techniques or another appropriate specialization
OR
Valid trade certification for machinists recognized by the appropriate authority
Condition of employment
If trade certification for machinists is required at the time of hiring, it must be considered as a condition of employment
Minimum experience generally required by level of complexity
- Level 1: Not applicable
- Level 2: From 0 to 6 years, depending on education
- Level 3: Not applicable
