Summary of responsibilities
Heavy vehicle drivers operate trucks, semi-trailers, lowboy trailers or other vehicles to transport goods, bulk materials and off-road equipment, or for public maintenance work.
Education requirement
Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in trucking or a recognized equivalent. Drivers who transport hazardous material or dangerous goods must be certified by the employer
Condition of employment
A drivers licence appropriate to the class of vehicle being driven (class 1 and/or class 3) is required, except in the mining sector when the vehicles are not driven on public roads
