Study on Fees Charged by Architecture and Engineering Firms in Québec 2024

This study was carried out at the request of the Secrétariat du Conseil du trésor. Its purpose is to collect data on fees charged for architecture and engineering services related to construction work in Québec. The information collected was used to produce hourly rate ranges that are representative of what is charged on the market for architecture and engineering services related to construction work.

Frequency and editions

The first edition covered the 2024 reference year. Annual indexing is planned for the four following years, from 2026 to 2029, and the resulting data will be published in July of each of those years.

Target population

The population covered by the study includes firms located in Québec with five or more employees in the following two NAICS industries: architectural services (NAICS 54131) and engineering services (NAICS 54133).

The study covers firms that have carried out work related to construction projects in the past four years.

Clients for this construction work may be private or public (provincial, municipal or federal governments/agencies).

Sampling and data collection

The sampling frame used is the Québec portion of Statistics Canada’s Business Register (BR) database (June 2024 version for the main data collection). It is a census of all firms whose NAICS is 54131 or 54133.

Data collection is multimodal: web and telephone.

Data collection took place from October 28, 2024 to January 31, 2025 (web questionnaire closed on February 3, 2025).
