Regard sur les jeunes adultes sans diplôme d’études secondaires âgés de 18 à 34 ans au Québec

The main objective of this bulletin is to provide a portrait of young adults aged 18 to 34 in Québec who have not completed high school and, more specifically, workers without a high school diploma in the same age group, according to various characteristics generally associated with basic information processing skills (literacy, numeracy and problem-solving in a technology-rich environment). Demographic and socio-economic characteristics (or employment characteristics for workers) were examined in turn, along with literacy, numeracy and computer-related activities, and participation in training activities.

The other objective of this bulletin is to paint a portrait of the basic skills of adults aged 18 to 34 that don’t have a high school diploma, and to identify the characteristics of those who fare relatively better than others in terms of literacy and numeracy skills, in order to better guide interventions aimed at improving the situation of young adults with low educational levels. To put the results for the 18–34 age group into perspective, comparisons are made with those aged 35 and over.
