This publication presents the results of the second edition of the Qu&eacute;bec Survey of Tobacco Use in High School Students, which also collected data on other behaviours that can endanger the health of young people.
The report contains precise data on the prevalence of alcohol and drug use, on gambling, and on the frequency with which students engage in gambling. In addition, the report provides a comparison of these behaviours between boys and girls and between the various cohorts (Secondary 1 through 5).
Other factors associated with alcohol and drug use and gambling are also analyzed. Alcohol and drug use is documented using a problematic use screening tool, while an index is used to identify problems associated with gambling.
The target population of the survey included all students in Secondary 1 through 5 enrolled in the youth sector in French and English, public and private high schools in Qu&eacute;bec. In total, 4,730 students from 156 schools took part in the survey in the fall 2000.

This publication provides precise data on the prevalence of smoking and the determinants of this habit that can be harmful to the health of young Qu&eacute;becers. It is the second edition of the Qu&eacute;bec Survey of Tobacco Use in High School Students, which also measured the changes that took place since 1998.
