In 2023-2024, total spending on culture by the Québec government stood at $3 billion, up 22% from 2022-2023. This represents 2% of the government’s total spending and exceeds the record high proportion from the first year of the pandemic (1.85%).
This bulletin analyzes the results of the Survey of Québec Government Spending on Culture (Enquête sur les dépenses de l’administration publique québécoise au titre de la culture). It provides a picture of the evolution of direct spending (salaries, purchases of goods and services, purchases of land, equipment, materials or buildings, operating grants and contributions, etc.) and tax spending (tax credits) on culture.
Particular attention is paid to spending by cultural field and by administrative region, as well as to the share of cultural spending in the total consolidated spending of the Québec government’s public accounts.
