Le travail rémunéré pendant les études et la santé mentale des jeunes : le nombre d’heures travaillées compte

In this article, we first present a brief portrait of the employment situation of high school students by sex, level of education, selected socio-demographic characteristics and number of hours worked per week during the school year. Next, we seek to verify if there is a threshold of hours worked beyond which the effects of work on mental health are harmful. Finally, we examine the links between paid work and high levels of psychological distress, anxiety disorders and diagnosed depressive disorders when the number of hours worked, selected individual characteristics of students and family context are simultaneously taken into account. This study is based on data from the Québec Health Survey of High School Students conducted in 2010–2011.
