This article begins with a general portrait of health literacy in the Québec population aged 16 and over, as measured in Statistics Canada’s 2003 International Adult Literacy and Skills Survey (IALSS). It then describes some target groups, which are population groups that are more likely to have low levels of health literacy.
Finally, factors associated with health literacy are identified and the most favourable are highlighted. The results for target groups and favourable factors generally relate to the population aged 16 to 65.
