L'excès de poids dans la population québécoise de 1987 à 2003

The information presented in this fact sheet focuses on the incidence of being obese and overweight according to various characteristics: sex, age, income, education and place of residence. The analysis is based primarily on self-reported height and weight data. However, data obtained from precise height and weight measurements, which provide a more reliable estimate of the true prevalence of weight categories, are also presented. In addition, the data make it possible to assess the geographic variations in obesity and overweight rates in different Québec regions and to explain, where applicable, what factors are associated with them. The data in this publication come from three general health surveys conducted by the Institut de la statistique du Québec between 1987 and 1998, as well as from the Canadian Community Health Survey conducted by Statistics Canada (cycle 1.1, 2.1 and 2.2).
