Financing and Growth of Small and Medium Enterprises in Québec 2014

This report draws on data from the 2014 Survey on Financing and Growth of Small and Medium Enterprises to give an overview of SME financing requests in Québec, as well as SME growth in 2014 (including obstacles to growth and geographic markets). It follows from a 2014 report that drew on data from the 2011 Survey on Financing and Growth of Small and Medium Enterprises.

The latest report addresses the same topics as its predecessor and includes a new one: a portrait of Québec SMEs in 2014 and 2015. Two new sub-topics were also added: obstacles to exportation (for exporting SMEs) in 2014 and the intention to develop new markets (for all SMEs) between 2015 and 2017. When possible, the findings for Québec are compared to those for the rest of Canada. However, the findings from both surveys are not always comparable owing to the reformulation of certain questions and the review of population domains.

Note: The data for 2014 cannot be compared directly with those from 2007. It would be necessary to make certain adjustments to compare 2014 data with those from 2011, since in 2014, businesses with gross earnings of less than $30,000 were excluded, and some questions were reformulated.
