Assessment of the Québec labour market in 2025

Montréal, February 25, 2026. – In 2025, the number of jobs increased by 79,000 (+1.7%) to about 4,645,000 jobs in Québec. This increase was larger than the one recorded in 2024 (+1.0%) and was observed among both women (+2.3%) and men (+1.2%).

Between 2024 and 2025, the number of jobs rose by about 2.4% (+70,800) among those aged 25 to 54. As in 2024, employment remained stable for people aged 15 to 24 and 55 and over. Over 10 years, the number of jobs has risen by more than 600,000 in Québec (approximately +15%).

Job vacancies down for the third year in a row 

The number of job vacancies declined by about 19,000 (-14%) compared with 2024 and stood at 118,000 in 2025 (average for the first nine months).

Average wages increased more than the consumer price index

In 2025, the average hourly wages of employees were up by about 3.6% from 2024 to $35.05. These wages stood at $36.81 for men and $33.17 for women. The rise in average hourly wages therefore exceeded consumer price index (CPI) growth, which was 2.4% in 2025. Over 10 years, the CPI has grown by an average of 2.6% per year compared to 3.7% for hourly wages.

Comparisons with Canada

The number of jobs was up by 1.4% (298,000) in Canada in 2025. Two provinces recorded increases of almost 3%: Alberta (+2.8%) and Saskatchewan (+2.5%).
