Intimate Partner Violence

Approximately 40% of Québec women aged 18 and over who have been in an intimate or romantic relationship have experienced at least one act of intimate partner violence in their lifetime, which represents about 1,329,500 women. This proportion is 26% for men, or about 858,400 men. However, women are the main victims of intimate partner violence and experience the most severe acts and consequences.

This report is based on data from the Québec Survey on Intimate Partner Violence, which mainly aims to measure victimization associated with intimate partner violence experienced by women and men aged 18 and over in their lifetime, as well as intimate partner violence experienced in the previous 12 months in the province of Québec and its 17 administrative regions.
