The publication PIB et indice de concentration géographique de l’industrie finance et assurances, par région métropolitaine de recensement (RMR) du Québec, édtion 2018 proposes a measure of the relative economic importance of the finance and insurance industry in the main CMAs. It also gives the most detailed breakdown possible of the GDP sectors in that industry.

The data in the tables Produit intérieur brut aux prix de base par RMR du Québec et par industrie, 2009-2016 compiled at the ISQ have been modified in order to isolate the financial services industry from the real estate and rental and leasing and management of companies and enterprises. This has also made it possible to identify the respective contribution of financial intermediaries and insurance carriers and related activities.

The statistical tables present the annual GDP in current dollars by sector and subsector for all of Québec, the Montréal CMA, the Québec CMA, the other CMAs, and non-CMA areas in Québec. Also shown is the geographic concentration index of the finance and insurance industry and its attendant sectors in each region selected.

The publication PIB et indice de concentration géographique de l’industrie finance et assurances, Canada et provinces, données provisoires 2017 provides a review of the interprovincial evolution of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the finance and insurance industry.
The breakdown of the GDP of the finance and insurance industry by sector at the provincial level and the production of a geographic concentration index are some of the measures used to compare the development and the benefits of an industry in the economy.
This publication provides two data groups on GDP of the finance and insurance industry by province, i.e. a version in current dollars covering the 2007-2014 period and another one featuring chained-dollar data at 2007 prices covering the 2012-2017 period. The geographic concentration index is built using chained-dollar GDP at 2007 prices and also covers the 2012-2017 period.
