Les écrivains québécois. Portrait des conditions de pratiques de la profession littéraire au Québec 2010

This publication is devoted to Québec creative writers. It combines the data and analyses required to determine the conditions of practice of that occupation in Québec.

The first in a series of surveys on artistic and communication occupations, this study, using statistical data gathered in a census, profiles Québec writers. It also provides data on the literary categories characterizing their production, the time they devote to creative writing, the income they derive from it, their personal income, and their social security benefits. The analysis, using an index of artistic income, puts particular emphasis on the interrelations between the income derived from literary creation and the personal income of writers.

Not only does this monograph give an overview of the literary profession in Québec, but it also makes it possible, thanks to the relevance of the subjects broached, to understand the reality and complexity of the identity component of Québec literary creation.
