Impact of the measures adopted by businesses with 200 or more employees at the beginning of the pandemic

    What measures were put in place by Québec businesses with 200 or more employees during the first wave of the pandemic?

    Highlights

    • The COVID-19 related measures adopted by businesses affected private sector employees more than those in the major public subsectors.
    • The percentage of employees who kept their jobs was higher in government enterprises and public organizations than in private businesses (97% vs 81%).
    • Private sector employees were more affected by a change in their base salary than those in the other sectors analyzed. However, this measure was generally temporary.

    The results are presented by sector (public/private), unionization status, business size, and according to 10 indicators selected to measure the impact of the pandemic during the period from March 13 to June 30, 2020.
