État des lieux sur les métadonnées relatives aux contenus culturels

Produced by the Observatoire de la culture et des communications of the Institut de la statistique du Québec with the help of specialists in the fields covered and of government partners, the publication État des lieux sur les métadonnées relatives aux contenus culturels is the first steptowardscarrying out action 80 of the Plan culturel numérique du Québec (PCNQ), which aims to “help the cultural community occupy the digital world so that the province of Québec can take advantage of the many economic benefits associated with that universe and remain competitive on global markets”.

This publication provides a picture of current metadata use in Québec’s cultural sector. It reports on the main findings regarding the situation as well as on the challenges associated with using metadata to improve the discoverability of cultural content and to help measure its consumption and compensate rights holders. The publication examines the use of metadata in five cultural fields: books and libraries, audiovisual, sound recordings, performing arts, and heritage, archives and museology (including content related to visual arts and fine crafts).
