Volume 10 of État des lieux du patrimoine, des institutions muséales et des archives presents the results of an economic impact study of heritage agencies, museum institutions and archive centres and services. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the contribution to the Québec economy of the operating expenses of those establishments. Those expenses produce a “value added” impact on the economy: new jobs and government tax revenues. The findings in this volume are based on simulations done using the Québec input-output model, an econometric model designed by the Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ).

Volume 9 of État des lieux du patrimoine, des institutions muséales et des archives deals with the propensity of Quebecers to visit various types of heritage institutions. It takes a look at the sociodeMBgraphic characteristics of visitors to museums, historic sites and monuments, and archive and documentation centres on history and genealogy. The findings in this volume are based on the results of the Survey on Cultural Practices of Quebecers, a survey of the Québec population conducted every five years by the ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine.

Volume 7 focuses on the activities conducted by the archive centres and services that conserve historical archives. It addresses the sources of funding, expenditures, the workforce, volunteer work, the members, and the occupation of heritage buildings.

Volume 8 takes a look at museum institutions – museums, interpretation sites and exhibition centres – according to their disciplines and the assistance granted by the ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec. It is primarily a question of museology activities, exhibitions and dissemination activites, and conservation of museum institutions.

Volume 6 deals with the operations of archive centres and services, which conserve historical archives, i.e, the acquisition of archives, their processing as well as dissemination activities to make them known. A look is also taken at the research conducted and the condition of the collections, i.e. the quantity of the various types of archives and the quality of the conservation conditions.

Volume 5 deals with the regional component of the publication État des lieux. The regional data are presented so as to permit various comparisons. This volume comprises two main parts. The first part presents an analysis of the characteristic regional groupings, i.e. central, neighbouring, intermediate and outlying regions. The second part features the portrait of each administrative region compared to the group to which it belongs, and to Québec as a whole.

Volume 4 deals with the diversity of the activities of heritage agencies, namely dissemination, research, collection and conservation. It also specifically addresses the matter of quantity and quality of preservation conditions of archives, decorative objects of art, and artefacts.

Volume 3 again provides a detailed statistical portrait of museum institutions – museums, interpretation sites and exhibition centres by discipline and by aid granted by the ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec. It features statistics on the sources of funding, expenditures, the workforce, volunteer work, the number of members, and the occupation of heritage buildings.

Volume 2 gives a detailed statistical portrait of the not-for-profit establishments in the heritage sector by category of organization. It broaches their sources of funding, their expenditures, the workforce, volunteer work, memberships, and the occupation of heritage buildings.

Prepared by the Institut de la statistique du Québec with the help of myriad specialists, the État des lieux du patrimoine, des institutions muséales et des archives will be composed of a series of volumes that draw a comprehensive portrait of this major cultural field. In addition to these volumes, which will contain detailed analyses of each of the three sectors, there will be a regional review, an overview of the practices of those who frequent the establishments in the field, a study of its importance in the Québec economy and, lastly, a synthetic study.
Volume 1 gives a statistical portrait of the not-for-profit establishments in the fields of heritage, museum institutions and archives. It broaches their sources of funding, their expenditures, the workforce, volunteer work, memberships, and the occupation of heritage buildings. The authors also take a look at the common history of the three sectors in the field and their legal frameworks which complement one another and form the structure of the Québec heritage network.
