    Québec’s real GDP at basic prices up 0.4% in October 2023

    Québec, January 24, 2024. – In October 2023, Québec’s real gross domestic product (GDP) at basic prices was up 0.4% from the previous month, following a 0.3% increase in September. This was revealed in the publication Produit intérieur brut par industrie au Québec, octobre 2023 released today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.

     Production of goods up 0.4%

    The output of goods-producing industries was up 0.4% in October after rising 1.4% in September. The increase in October came mainly from the construction sector (+1.0%) and, to a lesser extent, from the agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting (+2.0%) and the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (+2.3%) sectors.  

    Service production up 0.4%

    In October, output in the service industries rose by 0.4% after remaining relatively stable (0.0%) in September. The increase in October was attributable to wholesale trade (+2.6%), retail trade (+1.1%), educational services (+0.5%), and professional, scientific and technical services (+0.4%).

    Cumulative total for the first ten months of 2023: Québec’s real GDP up 0.3%

    For the first ten months of 2023, Québec’s real GDP was 0.3% higher than in the same months of 2022. The sectors that contributed the most to this increase are public administration (+3.2%), transportation and warehousing (+6.2%), and retail trade (+2.9%).

    Canada’s real GDP at basic prices stable in October 2023

    According to data published on December 22, 2023 by Statistics Canada, Canada’s real GDP at basic prices remained largely unchanged in October (0.0%) for the third consecutive month. The output of goods-producing industries remained stable (0.0%), while that of service-producing industries rose by 0.1%.
