Québec’s real GDP remained unchanged in January 2026

Québec, April 28, 2026. – In January 2026, Québec’s real gross domestic product (GDP) at basic prices remained essentially unchanged from the previous month after a 0.3% increase in December 2025. This was revealed in Produit intérieur brut par industrie au Québec, janvier 2026 published today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.

Production of goods up

Output in the goods-producing industries was up 0.1% in January after rising 0.4% in December. This increase came mainly from the construction (+1.0%) and manufacturing (+0.5%) sectors. In contrast, agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting declined (-4.3%) in January.

Service production down

Output in the service industries was down 0.1% in January after a 0.3% increase in the previous month. The decline in January was mainly attributable to health care and social assistance (-0.7%) and wholesale trade (-0.9%).

Québec’s real GDP down 0.7% in January 2026 over January 2025

In January 2026, Québec’s real GDP was 0.7% lower than in January 2025. The sector that contributed the most to the drop is manufacturing (-5.5%).

Canada’s real GDP up in January 2026

According to data published by Statistics Canada on March 31, 2026, Canada’s real GDP was up 0.1% in January following a 0.2% increase in December. The output of goods-producing industries rose by 0.2%, while that of service-producing industries remained relatively stable. In January 2026, Canada’s real GDP was up 0.6% from January 2025.
