Québec’s real GDP up 0.4% in February 2026

Québec, May 26, 2026. – In February 2026, Québec’s real gross domestic product (GDP) was up 0.4% from the previous month, following a 0.1% increase in January 2026. This was revealed in Produit intérieur brut par industrie au Québec, février 2026 released today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.

Goods production increased by 0.9% 

Output in the goods-producing industries was up 0.9% in February after rising 0.3% in January. The increase in February came mainly from manufacturing (+1.4%) and utilities (+1.9%). 

The manufacturing increase in February was essentially due to the food manufacturing (+3.9%), primary metal manufacturing (+3.7%), non-metallic mineral product manufacturing (+9.3%), and plastics and rubber products manufacturing (+5.8%) subsectors.

Service production up 0.3%

Output in the service industries grew 0.3% in February after rising 0.1% in the previous month. The increase in February was mainly attributable to wholesale trade (+2.2%) and retail trade (+1.1%). In contrast, public administration (-0.7%) and health care and social assistance (-0.5%) posted declines.

Cumulative total for the first two months of 2026: Québec’s real GDP down 0.1% 

For the first two months of 2026, Québec’s real GDP was 0.1% lower than in the same months of 2025. The sector that contributed the most to the decrease is manufacturing (-4.0%). Conversely, finance and insurance (+3.0%), real estate and rental and leasing (+1.5%), retail trade (+2.6%), and wholesale trade (+2.2%) made positive contributions to real GDP.

Canada’s real GDP up in February 2026

According to data published by Statistics Canada on April 30, 2026, Canada’s real GDP was up 0.2% in February following a 0.1% increase in January. The output of goods and service industries increased by 0.4% and 0.1%, respectively. For the first two months of 2026, Canada’s real GDP was 0.8% higher than in the same months of 2025.
