Québec, July 28, 2026. – In April 2026, Québec’s real gross domestic product (GDP) was up 0.1% from the previous month, after a 0.3% decrease in March 2026. This was revealed in the publication Produit intérieur brut par industrie au Québec, avril 2026 released today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
Goods production increased by 0.1%
Output in the goods-producing industries was up 0.1% in April after declining 0.3% in March. The increase in April came mainly from manufacturing (+0.3%) and mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (+1.9%). In contrast, utilities were down 1.7%.
Manufacturing growth in April was essentially due to the petroleum and coal product manufacturing (+7.6%), wood product manufacturing (+3.6%), machinery manufacturing (+1.7%) and non-metallic mineral product manufacturing (+4.7%) subsectors. These increases were mitigated by drops in primary metal manufacturing (-3.4%) and fabricated metal product manufacturing (-3.5%).
Service production up 0.1%
Output in the service industries grew 0.1% in April after a 0.3% decrease in the previous month. The increase in April was mainly attributable to transportation and warehousing (+0.9%), health care and social assistance (+0.3%), finance and insurance (+0.5%), and accommodation and food services (+1.6%). In contrast, information and cultural industries (-1.2%) and educational services
(-0.4%) posted declines.
Cumulative total for the first four months of 2026: Québec’s real GDP down 0.1%
For the first four months of 2026, Québec’s real GDP was 0.1% lower than in the same months of 2025. The sectors that contributed the most to this decrease are manufacturing (-3.5%) and public administration (-1.8%). Conversely, real estate and rental and leasing (+2.0%), finance and insurance (+3.2%) and wholesale trade (+2.1%) contributed positively to real GDP.


Canada’s real GDP up 0.5% in April 2026
According to data published by Statistics Canada on June 30, 2026, Canada’s real GDP was up 0.5% in April following a 0.1% decrease in March. The output of goods and service industries increased by 1.2% and 0.3%, respectively. For the first four months of 2026, Canada’s real GDP was 0.7% higher than in the same months of 2025.
