Québec, July 30, 2024. – In April 2024, Québec’s real gross domestic product (GDP) at basic prices was up 0.6% from the previous month, after a 0.3% decrease in March 2024. This was revealed in the publication Produit intérieur brut par industrie au Québec, avril 2024 released today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
Production of goods grew 2.0%
Output in the goods-producing industries was up 2.0% in April, after a 1.1% drop in March. Four of the five goods-producing sectors contributed to the increase in April: manufacturing (+1.2%), utilities (+5.1%), construction (+1.7%), and agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting (+7.4%).
Manufacturing growth came mainly from the following subsectors: transportation equipment manufacturing (+3.0%), non-metallic mineral product manufacturing (+7.7%), and electrical equipment, appliance and component manufacturing (+6.9%).
Service production up 0.1%
Service-producing industries grew 0.1% in April, after remaining relatively stable in March. In April, educational services (+0.7%), real estate and rental and leasing (+0.3%), wholesale trade (+0.5%) and finance and insurance (+0.4%) all posted an increase. In contrast, the professional, scientific and technical services sector declined by 1.2%.
Cumulative total for the first four months of 2024: Québec’s real GDP up 0.3%
For the first four months of 2024, Québec’s real GDP was 0.3% higher than in the same months of 2023. The sectors that contributed the most to this increase are real estate and rental and leasing (+2.6%), public administration (+2.1%), and wholesale trade (+2.7%).


Canada’s real GDP at basic prices up 0.3% in April 2024
According to data published by Statistics Canada on June 28, 2024, Canada’s real GDP at basic prices was up 0.3% in April after remaining essentially unchanged in March. Output grew by 0.3% in both the goods and service industries.
