Notice of release
Québec, June 21, 2021. – The value of mineral shipments in Québec rose by 11.1% in 2019 from 2018 to $11.91 billion. The mining sector’s wage bill totalled $2.1 billion, up 4.4% from 2018. These are the main findings from the bulletin Mining by the Numbers - Mineral Production in Québec in 2019 released by the Institut du la statistique du Québec, based on the Annual Census on Mineral Production.

Mineral shipments up in Québec in 2019
- The three main mining regions accounted for 75.2% of the total value of mineral shipments in the province. Their shipments increased from 2018 to:
- $3.15 billion (+3.9%) for Nord-du-Québec,
- $3.02 billion (+16.0%) for Côte-Nord, and
- $2.78 billion (+9.5%) for Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
- Shipments from Montérégie, which were mainly from mineral processing, totalled $1.50 billion, up 13.0%.

Increase in the number of jobs and wage bill
- There were 18,918 jobs in Québec’s mining sector in 2019, for a wage bill of $2,092 million.
- This represents an increase of 5.6% in the number of jobs and of 4.4% in the wage bill from 2018.
- 3% of jobs were concentrated in the three mining regions:
- 4,048 in Nord-du-Québec (21.4%),
- 3,932 in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (20.8%), and
- 3,048 in Côte-Nord (16.1%).
- There were 2,918 mining jobs in Montérégie (15.4%), mainly in primary mineral manufacturing.
