Québec’s international merchandise exports up in October 2022
Québec, December 20, 2022. – Québec’s international merchandise exports, seasonally adjusted and in constant dollars, were up 2.4% in October 2022 from the previous month. This finding comes from an analysis of the most recent data on Québec’s international merchandise trade released today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
The products that contributed the most to this monthly increase were aircraft (+49.1%), heavy fuel oils (+158.2%), unwrought copper and copper alloys (+62.5%), and aircraft engines (+19.8%).
The products whose exports decreased in October include commercial and service industry machinery and equipment (-60.8%), diesel and biodiesel fuels (-29.0%), turbines, turbine generators, and turbine generator sets (except aircraft turbines)
(-76.3%), as well as unwrought aluminum and aluminum alloys (-6.8%).
Exports in the first ten months of 2022 were up 4.8% compared with the same months of 2021.
Québec’s international merchandise imports up in October 2022
Québec’s international merchandise imports, seasonally adjusted and in constant dollars, were up 2.3% in October from September 2022.
The products that contributed the most to this increase in imports were conventional crude oil (+59.2%), basic and semi-finished products of non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous metal alloys (except gold, silver, platinum group metals and aluminum) (+358.7%), unwrought nickel and nickel alloys, whose imports in September were very low, as well as aviation fuel (+37.7%).
However, imports of certain products declined in October. This was the case for light-duty trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles (-7.4%), aircraft engines (-52.5%), pharmaceutical and medicinal products (-13.3%), and other electrical equipment and components (-34.6%).
Imports in the first ten months of 2022 were up 1.5% compared with the same months of 2021.
The situation in Canada
According to data published by Statistics Canada on December 6, 2022, Canada’s seasonally adjusted merchandise exports in constant dollars increased by 1.7% in October 2022 from the previous month. Canada’s merchandise imports decreased by 1.7%.
For the first ten months of 2022, Canada’s merchandise exports and imports were up by 3.5% and 8.3%, respectively, compared with the same months of 2021.
