Québec’s international merchandise exports up 2.9% in December 2025


Québec, March 10, 2026. – Québec’s international merchandise exports, seasonally adjusted and in constant dollars, were up 2.9% in December 2025 from the previous month (+3.0% in November). This finding comes from the most recent international merchandise trade data for Québec released today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.

The products that contributed the most to this monthly increase are aircraft (+27.5%), aircraft engines (+29.7%), light fuel oils (+68.3%), and unwrought gold, silver, and platinum group metals and their alloys (+619.4%),

The products whose exports decreased in December include commercial and service industry machinery and equipment (-45.9%), copper ores and concentrates (-99.1%), diesel and biodiesel fuels (-35.2%), and waste and scrap of non-ferrous metals (-26.3%).

Exports for 2025 as a whole were down 4.9% from 2024.

Exports to the United States declined by 6.9% in 2025

Québec’s exports to the United States in 2025, non-seasonally adjusted and in current dollars, were down 6.9% compared with 2024. On the same basis and over the same period, exports to other countries (except the United States) were up 10.6%. As a result, total exports—including to the United States—were down 2.3%.

Québec’s international merchandise imports down 7.7% in December 2025

Québec’s international merchandise imports, seasonally adjusted and in constant dollars, were down 7.7% in December 2025 from November (+5.3% in November).

The products that contributed the most to this drop in imports were pharmaceutical and medicinal products (-32.9%), basic and semi-finished products of non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous metal alloys, except gold, silver, platinum group metals and aluminum (-73.1%), lubricants and other petroleum refinery products (-57.6%), and nickel ores and concentrates (-100.0%).

In contrast, imports of certain products were up in December. This was the case for aircraft parts and other aerospace equipment (+15.7%), light-duty trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles, without electric motor (+9.9%), lead and zinc ores and concentrates (+97.3%), and aircraft engines (+54.2%).

Imports for 2025 as a whole were up 4.7% from 2024.

The situation in Canada

According to data published by Statistics Canada on February 19, 2026, Canada’s seasonally adjusted merchandise exports in constant dollars increased by 3.5% in December 2025 from the previous month. Meanwhile, imports were up 0.8%.

For 2025 as a whole, Canada’s merchandise exports decreased by 1.2% from 2024, while its imports were virtually unchanged.
