Québec, April 24, 2025. – In January 2025, Québec’s real gross domestic product (GDP) at basic prices was up 0.5% from the previous month, following a 0.3% increase in December 2024. This was revealed in Produit intérieur brut par industrie au Québec, janvier 2025 published today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
Goods production up 2.1%
The output of goods industries rose 2.1% in January after a 0.2% drop in December. The increase in January came from all goods-producing industry subsectors, particularly mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (+11.7%), manufacturing (+1.0%), utilities (+4.0%), and construction (+1.7%).
Production of service industries stable
The output of service industries remained essentially unchanged in January, after a 0.5% increase in December. The main sectors that posted growth in January were wholesale trade (+1.0%), educational services (+0.5%), and transportation and warehousing (+0.7%). However, these increases were offset by a decline in the retail trade sector (-2.5%).
Québec’s real GDP up 2.2% in January 2025 over January 2024
In January 2025, Québec’s real GDP was 2.2% higher than in January 2024. The sectors that contributed the most to this increase are real estate and rental and leasing (+3.8%), educational services (+5.7%), health care and social assistance (+3.2%), retail trade (+4.8%), finance and insurance (+3.7%), and utilities (+7.4%).


Canada’s real GDP at basic prices up 0.4% in January 2025
According to data published by Statistics Canada on March 28, 2025, Canada’s real GDP at basic prices was up 0.4% in January after a 0.3% increase in December. Production in the goods and service industries grew by 1.1% and 0.1%, respectively. Output in Canada was up 2.2% from January 2024.
