Situation of Québec businesses in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in August 2020

    Notice of release

Québec, December 3, 2020. – The results of the Québec portion of the third edition of the Canadian Survey on Business Conditions (CSBC) provide insight into the extent of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Québec businesses as they resume their operations. The Institut de la statistique du Québec is releasing today an analysis illustrating their situation during the summer of 2020.

This analysis presents the extent of layoffs and rehires, changes in revenue and expenses, access to liquidity and debt capacity, the evolution of the various temporary measures put in place by businesses to adapt to the pandemic, as well as the expectations of businesses for the next three months, and even the next year.

The August 2020 CSBC was carried out from September 15 to October 21, 2020 by Statistics Canada in collaboration with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Like the second edition of the survey, this edition is based on a probabilistic approach and only covers businesses with employees. Participation in the survey is voluntary, and an electronic questionnaire was used. For Québec, the results are based on the responses of 1,882 businesses.
