Québec, February 18, 2021. – The Institut de la statistique du Québec released today an analysis of the average number of days of annual leave, statutory holidays and floating holidays in businesses with 200 or more employees in Québec in 2018.
This publication provides a picture of the average number of days of vacation, statutory holidays and floating holidays and their cost as a percentage of average annual earnings. The data are provided according to various breakdowns: sector (public or private), unionization, business size, skill level required for the position based on the National Occupational Classification, and years of service with an employer.
Highlights:
- In 2018, the average length of annual leave was about 20 days per year in businesses with 200 or more employees in Québec.
- The average number of statutory and floating holidays was 12.3 per year in these businesses overall.
- Employees in the public sector had more vacation than those in the private sector—4 more days on average.
- Unionized employees had nearly 3 more vacation days than non-unionized employees.
