Notice of release
Québec, February 25, 2021. – The Institut de la statistique du Québec published today the Dashboard for measuring the green economy in Québec, which provides a series of 12 indicators organized around four themes:
- Clean technologies
- Environmentally responsible business practices
- Green jobs
- Circular economy
These indicators were selected by the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation, the Ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques and the Institut de la statistique du Québec in order to monitor progress towards an economy that aims to preserve the environment and the competitiveness of Québec businesses.
The dashboard follows up on the publication of the document Cadre conceptuel et indicateurs pour la mesure de l’économie verte in June 2020. This document, which aimed to address the lack of unique and official definitions, laid the foundation for the production and dissemination of official statistics on the green economy. The conceptual framework clarifies, compares and organizes the various concepts and themes associated with the green economy and links them to the founding concept of sustainable development. It also proposes an approach to measuring the green economy as well as a list of potential indicators, from which the 12 indicators in the dashboard released today are drawn.
The Institut de la statistique du Québec produces, analyzes and disseminates official, objective and quality statistical information on various aspects of Québec society. It is responsible for conducting all statistical surveys of general interest. The relevance of its work makes it a strategic ally for decision makers and all those wishing to learn more about Québec.
