Foreign countries and the rest of Canada are the main export destinations for goods made in Québec

Québec, March 12, 2020. – In 2017, sales of manufactured goods made in Québec totalled $155.9 billion and were mainly destined for outside markets, meaning foreign markets ($59.2 billion) and other Canadian provinces ($35.9 billion). This was revealed by the publication Bulletin manufacturier, mars 2020, released today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.

Subsectors experiencing the strongest increases in exports of manufactured goods between 2013 and 2017

Between 2013 and 2017, the highest increases in sales of manufactured goods shipped to markets outside Canada were observed in the subsectors of transportation equipment manufacturing (+$3.0 billion), food manufacturing (+$1.6 billion) and primary metal processing (+$1.5 billion).

In addition, the subsectors of machinery manufacturing and wood product manufacturing posted significant increases in their exports to the United States ($1.3 billion and $989.5 million respectively).

Majority of Québec regions export over 50% of their sales of manufactured goods

Among Québec's 17 administrative regions, 13 export more than 50% of their total sales of manufactured goods. Three regions posted shares of over 70%: Côte-Nord (81.7%), Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean (71.2%) and the Laurentides (71.0%).

In terms of value, Montréal and Montérégie led the way for exports of manufactured goods, totalling $31.7 billion and $18.5 billion respectively in 2017.
