    International trade – Important notice about the January 9, 2024 release

    Statistics Canada has made important changes that affect the international merchandise trade data released on December 6, 2023. These changes mainly relate to:

    • The transition to the 2022 version of the North American Product Classification System (NAPCS 2022).
    • The new base year 2017 for export and import price indexes (previously base year 2012).
    • The historical revision of data back to 1988 under NAPCS 2022.

    For its part, the Institut de la statistique du Québec has made the following changes:

    • Certain import data have been adjusted in order to record Québec imports that are cleared in another province, in accordance with NAPCS 2022.
    • Seasonal adjustment models for import and export series have been adjusted in accordance with NAPCS 2022.
    • Seasonal adjustment models for international trade price indexes in base year 2017 have been modified in accordance with NAPCS 2022.

    Statistics in 2017 constant dollars will be published from January 2017.
