    Education data now available to researchers

    Data from the Ministère de l’Éducation and the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur are now available through the Institut’s Research Data Access Services.

    These data provide information on:

    • students (sociodemographic profile, available educational and special services, learning assessment results, official certification documents, etc.);
    • educational institutions (authorizations, fields of study, stakeholders, etc.);
    • objects of study (programs and courses offered, admission and certification requirements, etc.).

    Use of data

    The data can be used alone or in combination with other data available through the access point, such as data from the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) and the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS).

    Under certain conditions, the data collected directly by researchers can be matched with data held by the education system.

    These data can be used to select a group of individuals based on their characteristics at birth or at a young age, but also based on their school level. This makes it easier to determine whether these characteristics have an impact on educational trajectories, academic achievement, health, or health care use.

    Examples of potential projects

    • Studying the impact of head trauma on children’s health care or educational trajectories.
    • Assessing the benefits of a program on the academic achievement of youth (comparing a group that took part in the program to a group that did not).
    • Identifying predictors of academic achievement based on certain demographic and health characteristics.

    Note

    The description of the information on students is already available (list of variables and descriptions).

    The descriptions for institutions and objects of study will be added shortly.
