    Study on the Experiences of Youth in Sports in Québec (SEYQ)

    The objective of this study is to collect information on the experiences of young people involved in organized sports in Québec. As there is little data on this subject, it is important to learn more so that decision makers and stakeholders in the sport community can put in place programs that are adapted to the reality of these young people.

    The Institut de la statistique du Québec, also known as Statistique Québec, is a government agency whose mission is to produce, analyze and disseminate official, objective and quality statistics on various aspects of Québec society.

    Why was I chosen for the study?

    Your class was selected for the Québec Health Survey of High School Students (QHSHSS). Schools and classes were selected at random from each of the five high school grade levels, according to various criteria such as size, language of instruction, and socioeconomic diversity. After completing the QHSHSS survey in class, you were invited to fill out the SEYQ questionnaire outside of class hours.

    Do I have to take part in this study?

    Your participation in the study is voluntary, but important, because it will enable us to produce high-quality data that will help the education and sports networks in Québec to improve programs, actions plan and interventions aimed at promoting youth well-being in Québec and the safe practice of organized sports.

    What is Statistique Québec’s privacy policy?

    The Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec guarantees that the information you provide will be kept confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes. All Statistique Québec employees have taken an oath before a commissioner and are bound to maintain the secrecy and confidentiality of the data they collect.

    Will you share my answers with other individuals or organizations?

    Statistique Québec has entered into an agreement with the Ministère de l’Éducation and a researcher from Laval University, to whom the data collected will be sent. In accordance with the Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec, this questionnaire will remain anonymous.

    Does Statistique Québec have an ethical framework?

    Yes. The study was reviewed by the ethics committee appointed by Statistique Québec. The ethics committee is responsible for safeguarding the respect, dignity and integrity of those participating or included in the study.
