    Frequently asked questions

    What is the Institut de la statistique du Québec?

    The Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ) is a government agency whose mission is to produce official, objective and quality statistics on various aspects of Québec society.

    How do I participate in the study?

    To participate in the study:

    • go to the following web address: statistique.quebec.ca/qssrfn;
    • enter your identifier;
    • create a password; and
    • complete the online questionnaire.

    If necessary, you can exit the questionnaire and return to finish it at a more convenient time.

    The ISQ will call the persons who have not submitted their online questionnaire to obtain their answers by telephone. If you are not available when we call, you can let us know what time would be more convenient for you.

    I tried accessing the questionnaire but got an error message. What should I do?

    Make sure you entered your identifier correctly.

    You can contact the ISQ by telephone at 1-800-561-0213 or by e-mail at qssr@stat.gouv.qc.ca.

    Please mention the name of the study printed on your invitation letter, as well as your name, file number, and contact information.

    We will respond to your request within 24 hours during our office hours: Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    Why was I selected?

    Your name was selected at random, like the names of several hundred other First Nations people, for the Québec Study on Social Relations at School, at Work and in the Community – First Nations Component.

    The personal information required for the study, including your contact information, was obtained from the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ), under an agreement approved by the Commission d’accès à l’information in accordance with the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information.

    Is my participation mandatory?

    Your participation in the study is voluntary, but important, because it will help us better understand bullying at school and elsewhere, workplace harassment, as well as the characteristics of individuals who are less likely to experience these issues. The results of the study will be used to develop or adapt measures, programs and policies aimed at preventing or reducing bullying and harassment in Québec, in and outside of First Nations communities.

    Are telephone conversations recorded?

    For quality and training purposes, telephone conversations between ISQ agents and persons aged 18 and over are recorded. If you don’t want your conversation to be recorded, simply notify the agent at the beginning of the call.

    What is the ISQ’s privacy policy?

    The First Nations principles of ownership, control, access, and possession (OCAP) will be applied in this study, in accordance with an agreement signed by the Ministère de la Famille, the ISQ, and the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC).

    The study is conducted in accordance with the Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec, which guarantees that the information you provide will be kept confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes. All ISQ employees have taken an oath before a commissioner and are bound to maintain the secrecy and confidentiality of the data they collect.

    The ISQ is responsible for carrying out all statistical surveys of general interest for the government of Québec.

    Will you share my answers with other individuals or organizations?

    The information you provide will be shared with the FNQLHSSC, except any information that can directly identify you, such as your name, address, or telephone number. Only the FNQLHSSC will be responsible for analyzing the data and writing the statistical report. All of your information will be kept confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes.

    Does the ISQ have an ethical framework?

    Yes. The study was reviewed by the ethics committee appointed by the ISQ. The ethics committee is responsible for safeguarding the respect, dignity and integrity of those participating or included in the study.

    Why did my parents receive a letter about my participation in this study?

    In accordance with the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information, the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec has notified the ISQ that an information letter should be sent to the parents or guardians of any minors included in our studies. However, if you have just reached the age of majority, your parents may also have received a letter. This happens sometimes because ages are calculated based on participants’ year and month of birth only.

    Can I complete the questionnaire for my child or partner?/span>

    The questionnaire is personal and can only be completed by the person who was selected for the study.

    How can I make sure you are from the ISQ?

    You can call the ISQ toll-free at 1-800-561-0213.

    When will the study results be made available?

    The report on the Québec Study on Social Relations at School, at Work and in the Community – First Nations Component will be available on the FNQLHSSC website in the spring of 2024.
